If Djokovic had been Australian as the world No1 and with the same documentation, he would have gone through the same entry barriers to the country.

Yes, I imagine he would. Australia are a pretty no-nonsense nation. Djokovic only has himself to blame. He is the author of his own misfortune here.
Very funny, Bazile :-)
Disagree, Lady CG. Much of the blame lies with Tennis Australia. As defending Champ, Novak was desperate to defend his crown and TA were just as desperate for him to be there. They were the ones who misinterpreted the government's guidelines, imho - of course.

Perhaps other players will come out in support of him, do you think?
Ken is right: it wasn't only Tennis Australia either. His exemption was approved by Victoria state and by an independent immunisation authority.
So fair's fair, even though there is a lot of silly fuss being made about it by all sides.
Presumably he would be treated a bit differently: even Australia isn't going to refuse its own citizens entry to the country at least :-)
That's actually the whole point, ichkeria - Australia very much *has* been refusing to admit its own citizens for most of the last two years - even now they still need to be vaccinated to get back in - exemptions are very few and very hard to get.

Novax (and/or his lawyers) are lying through their teeth about the 16th December test - provided retrospectively by a subSerbian Government and about as kosher as a lorry load of pork chops.

Just look at him in all the photos of 16th/17th/18th December - at official functions and mixing with young people, big grin on his unmasked face - no the actions of someone who'd just tested positive for Covid.
I can only repeat what I said earlier:

Although i detest Djokovic’s attitude he didn’t cause this mess.
Unless you are suggesting that the exemption thing is a complete fake.
I’ve no idea whether he should have been granted it or not and it doesn’t bother me if he’s deported, but I’m just going by what I know.
It isn’t only Djokovic who is to blame for his attitude. The Australians also have to shoulder the consequences of their draconian approach - which I’m not sure is an entirely healthy one in the long run.
It’s bound in the end to cause conflict somewhere
I just hope that Novaxx gets his real come-uppance at long last. It's a shame that only Rafa Nadal has put his head above the parapet and implied what many tennis players must be thinking i.e. that Novax had the chance to be vaxxed like any sensible person but didn't take it.
Question Author
There are citizens and there are citizens.
I have the feeling that the Australian No1 would have been "whisked" through the Border Control.
I will be very surprised if he isn't allowed entry after the Hearing tomorrow morning.

We will never know the answer to my hypothetical question -;)
The whole system is a bit of a shambles. This female tennis player was allowed in and then a week later was deported.

No idea why he is staying there
May as well cut his losses and leave
The bbc legal expert reckoned he has very little chance of winning his case and even if he does I reckon he will face some hostility from the crowds at the venue
Zero sympathy for him
Nadal summed it up perfectly
He is no stranger to hostility from the spectators.
Perhaps that has something to do with his arrogance, Ken?
// Yes, I imagine he would. Australia are a pretty no-nonsense nation.//

Pres Trump ( yes for it is he) became roundly unstuck on this ( banning muslims) because ( steve bannon) forgot that there is a general law forbidding er the king from doing this

when dat den? 1215 - the Magna Carta

looly exilio unless from lawful process ( bit of Latin I havent got)
and...... the legal process is today

I blame the Beeb - now ! the Beeb are playing it as a political game whereas I think it is strightforward - has he obeyed the rules?

as Murray says - this is not good for Tennis: I think it is really bad....

which I wd extend to that dumb-cluck intensivist ( kings, Stephen James) who thinks it is in his patients interests to declare he neednt be vaccinated.....who er doesnt play tennis I agree
// The bbc legal expert reckoned he has very little chance of winning his case//
not a good sign

the Beeb "legal expert" never grasped what Gina Millers case on Br3xit was - ever ! - probably doesnt still as we speak
christ - I thought it was whether states can say "come in" when the feds say "out you slav meatloaf!"

no appeal on fact (!)
it is an appeal on whether the officer at the airport was wrong in law
I've never considered him to be any more arrogant than many sportsmen who excel in their chosen sport.
When is the race ?
