But Private Eye has what I think is an excellent way of keeping warm; and that is to warm your hands around the pants of Boris Johnson, which appear to be constantly on fire.
Another Private Eye tip was to burn copies of the 2019 Tory manifesto in which they pledged to keep the existing energy cap and introduce new measures to lower bills.
They have kept the energy cap (meaning supplyers are having to trade at a loss)... or are you saying they said the cap would never change.
Hopefully they can suspend VAT and some green levys but its not going to cancel out doubling of raw prices
Hymie ...Boris said "The E/U put VAT on fuel bills, and that makes gas and electric far more expensive .When we have left the E/U I will be able to scrap this unfair damaging tax. But he didn't did he ...Another Lie.
.....And the Public fell for it......
Hope he'll remove the VAT temporarily or increase cold weather payments.... but lets be fair here, VAT in UK is 5% on energy bill's , in most EU country's its far higher, generally nearer 15-20%. What is the energy VAT rate where you live gulliver as am not sure you told us last time we asked
They should cap the VAT ... I don't see why if prices go through the roof, VAT should go through the roof too. The very opposite of a windfall tax on people.
VAT isnt really the problem. Green taxes coupled with failing to exploit new oil/gas fields, frack and provide storage facilities - all in the name of being 'green'.
If we dont start doing the above then we will always be at the mercy of market prices.
//They pledged to keep the existing energy cap//
Do you mean the price or the method of calculating the cap? I'm not sure how long companies will last if forced to sell well below market prices so how do you propose dealing with that?
I read somewhere (yonks ago) "we heat our homes in the winter to temperatures we would find uncomfortable in summer". I have my stat set at 22c which is 71f. If I turn it down to 20 it feels cold but it really isn't.
