Legality of using a card with no validation
I used one of the self service tills at tescos (the ones where you scan your own items and pay by cash/card) and paid by switch. The machine didn't ask for a pin, so anyone could have used anyone elses card.
Is it legal to accept payment from a credit/debit card without asking for any validation?

It's the same with chip and pin, the campaign made out it was a legal requirement for shops to have chip and pin but it wasn't. I worked for a company who simply decided the cost was too much and they would absorb any fraud that might take place.
Either way if the card had been reported stolen it wouldn't have been valid for payment.
