Emma's reward for her victory is a 2nd round tie against an experienced, but eminently beatable, Montenegrin, Danka Kovinic. The unseeded Kovinic has been a pro since 2010 and has a success rate of just 56%. She has never progressed beyond the 2nd round of a slam. A real chance for 'Our Emma' (come on, she's won a do) to make rd 3 at least.

I am a long way from an expert on sport, of the psychology of sport, but the notion of giving an MBE to a teenager for winning one major is arrant stupidity.

It puts her under ludicrous pressure to maintain that level of play, which is impossible, and risks doing her psychological harm and spoiling her chances of growing into a proper career.

Hopefully she will sidestep the pathetic emotional nonsense of the Honours committee, and get on with being a good, and eventually great, sportswoman.
