Randy - // So, i know Andy H hates this. //
In speech, I find it mildly irritating, but as advised, it is the development of language - and not as irritating as the 'moronic interogative' - the raising of the voice at the end of sentence, beloved of students and Australian soap watchers everywhere.
The 'So...' that I hate is on here, which I puncture with my 'So Rule'.
It involves someone either literally, or by implication, starting a post with 'So what you;re saying is ...' and then proceeding to say something completely different from what the post they are responding to actually said, and then go on to criticise the poster for what they didn't say in the first place.
An example - 'Nazis are a particular horrible example from history of the evils of mass indoctrination.'
Response - 'SO WHAT YOU'RE SAYING IS ...You believe that all history is a matter of indoctrination, and you believe it is good thing because deep down, you are a Nazi yourself.'
You get the idea?
Of course there are some on here who are profoundly irritated by my pointing out such rank stupidity as 'breaking the So Rule'.
To them my answer is very simple - if people stop doing it, I will obviously stop pointing it out, so have a moan at them, not me.
