Have had a reminder through... £85.25 for 6 months. And couldnt get through to the gov site, so rang the automated service. Car registration, model etc all checked and correct. On there, it is only £55.25.

I have double-checked all the details several times... but why is it £30 cheaper by phone?

Ah, thank you very much, maydup x
Registration now showing as taxed until 1 Aug 2022. Very strange.
pixie, have you got to the bottom of why you were only charged £55.25?

Thank you all x no idea yet, ttt. I've been taxing cars for 30 years, and never seen something like that before. Maybe get another bill?
They will catch up with you in the end, I'm afraid.

I'm sure... but I haven't had a choice in the amount to pay. It told me and I just gave card details.
car tax is a right dog's breakfast - similar (same?) cars have widely varying rates based purely on the date they were registered.
dave, I drive a 12 year old diesel and pay £20 a year. It doesn't make sense
