Have noticed a couple of very young fledglings in my garden - a robin and a greenfinch. They can be only days out of the nest and I'm surprised how late they are. Probably a second brood but can never recall seeing young birds just starting out as late in the season as this before, leaving them quite vulnerable to autumn chills before they've learned how to forage for food and survive on their own.

I was at a conservation area on Sunday, and saw some fledgeling Bluetits, these would survive I think, beause they know where the feeders are, but as you say, strange to see them as late as this.
That is incredibly late for Greenfinches, Wendy.

Their last brood is usually in July, still anything can happen this year as everything in nature seems to be all over the place. I haven't seen any babes yet, but I'll certainly be keeping watch now that you've mentioned it.
