Today marks 77 years since the liberation of Auschwitz. Millions of Jews, Romas, travellers and minorities were killed by a machine that threatened the very fabric of civilisation.

In a mere 10 years or so there will be no living eyewitnesses left.

It is a harrowing experience to go there or to any of the Nazi Death Camps but I'm glad I did.

Never forget.

Absolutely
Saw a post on Instagram earlier that stated if you observed a minute silence for every victim of the Holocaust you would not speak for 7 and a half years
While in the forces in Germany I went on a visit to Belsen and I still have the photos I took of mass graves with boards on them stating 'Here lie the bodies of 5000' or 3000 etc. It was eye opening to say the least.
danny

I had the same experience at Dachau
Thanks for posting this Lcg, it also came up on my memories on FB, it is the most harrowing place to visit ,sadly one thing that sticks in my mind there was seeing Jewish students posing at the ‘killing wall ‘ the girls doing selfies with the customary trout pout , our guide told us they were Israeli students and it was part of their curriculum that they go to Auschwitz

Danny, I visited Dachau 3 years ago and was told that the birds fly around the mass graves but won't fly over. It's chilling.

Bobbi, I saw one woman teetering around Birkenau in the most ridiculous stilettos and another couple grinning whilst taking a selfie. Tasteless.
And a couple taking selfies inside the gas chamber, what is wrong with these idiots?
I have watched hours and hours on youtube, most harrowing.

Visited all the graves in Normandy, sombre experience.

How disgusting. Words fail me too, LadyB.
these people want arrested and the key thrown away, sickening !
Danny, i was stationed down the road from Belsen Concentration Camp in Hohne Garrison. Hohne Garrison was a panzer training school but was used as a hospital for those rescued from Belsen.
I live a few miles from Beth Shalom the National Holocaust Centre,in Laxton and it's well worth visiting though a might harrowing when you realise just what people are capable of.So if you are interested in the holocaust and you're in Notts pop in and see what you think.I'm not sure if you have to book now so give them a bell at 01623 836627 to check.
I’ve visited Holocaust memorials all over the world including Israel’s Yad Vashem, but among all the indescribable horrors I’ve seen one sight epitomises it all for me - the remaining wall of the ghetto in Krakow, Poland, built of slabs resembling Jewish tomb stones. I have never been able to get my head around the sick mind that conceived that design. I’ve got goose bumps as I type this.
Absolutely, I follow the Auschwitz memorial page on Twitter, its harrowing reading

For me, it was the scratch marks on the blue walls in the gas chambers. What terror was visited upon them we can only try to imagine.
