I would go along today and speak to a pharmacist.
tea tree oil is good,my chiropodist always puts a few drops on my nails x
I would remove any dead material - excess skin etc. Trim the nail if necessary. Swab with TCP & apply some Germolene ointment & a sticking plaster.
Bit more history needed.

Have you any underlying medical problems e.g.Diabetes?

Is your toe red and swollen?

Who told you that it is an infection?

Ibuprofen 400 mgms when required up to every 4 hours if need be.

Keep your GP appt and you can cancel if your toe has settled.
If you are not diabetic you could try magnesium sulfate paste that might draw out some of the infected gunk out. I think I would try a chiropodist though, they might be able to sort it and as toes can be disproportionately painful it would be worth the cost.
I can't help with your toe problem (though I sympathise) but what a sad indictment of the NHS that you need to wait for so long to see a doctor.
Doctors now have an average income of £100,000 p.a. I read.
Aye, £1000/hour.
