Can't remember the exact details but in the 60's ( I think) the miners were on strike and were facing financial and social hardship.
The leader of the North West branch of the N.U.M who lived in Blackpool was unfortunately found in Ibiza with his mistress and their photographs were splashed over the newspaper (the Mirror I think)...lol
I think you must be referring to Sid Vincent who initially opposed Arthur Scargill and the miners' strike of 1984-5. He spent Christmas 1984 in Tenerife with his partner.
