UK cottage weekend break

Where should we go for a UK weekend break where we can look forward to getting out of the city. I want rural, very green, fresh air, by the sea (?) log fire to just snuggle up for the whole wkend. quite isolated but accessible by train from london and a shortish taxi ride the other end. Not too expensive either! Will be going in late feb, early march. Any suggestion welcome - need to beat the January blues!

You need to go to www.farmstayuk.co.uk and decide where to go. Average cost is only �25 B & B a night per person and you get to stay in the best locations across the UK, in old manor houses, cosy intimate farms, coastal, inland - whatever you want.

And you help the farm as well as guaranteeing a more than hearty meal option - couldn't plug then enough for all the right reasons. I can't say one location is ever going to be absolutely the best option, but just have a troll through the site and see what you fancy.

If you really insist on an hotel though, do the same with www.hotelconnexions.com site and you'lll get the cheapest available rate (its in their contract to offer this) for min. 2 persons at any of their hotels in the UK.

The New Forest is nice and near the sea. Also the Lake District.

Search for Bawdsey Manor on the Suffolk coast. They have cottages giving everything you need, train via Ipswich to Woodbridge or Melton, taxi or bus to Bawdsey.

We've just come back from a similar weekend in the South Hams area of Devon. You would have to change from First Gret Western train at Totnes for a local one to Ivybridge then see if you can find a cottage close to or in Kingsbridge. There are some great coastal walks from there and if you can manage a trip round to Bigbury and Burgh Island that is great. The cornish pasties (yes I know it's Devon but what the hell) at the beach cafe at Bigbury are the best we have ever tasted and the staff there are great. Happy hunting.

hi,you should try a Thatched Cottage in Kent,between Canterbury and Herne Bay.on bus route.Train stn to victoria approx 75mins. Train station in Herne Bay is 10mins on bus.30 mins to canterbury,15 to whitstable.Look on Holiday-rentals website at property 14729 for fuller description.
