Stopped at the hotel
Villa delle Palme last year - a wonderful place on the Lido. Prices vary considerably depending on season, film festival etc.,
but we were there off-season and got a ridiculously cheap rate.
I was expecting to get ripped off at every turn, but was pleasantly suprised how good and affordable the food and drink was in general. (Obviously if you insist on having a cappuccino on St. Mark's Square you deserve to have your house repossessed to foot the bill).
If you get fed up with Italian food, try the Syrian
restaurant Sahara (Cannaregio, 2519). And if you fancy a suckling pig butty and a vino rosso, check out a place just opposite the vaporetto stop for Murano.
Have a good trip.
