Watching the Super Bowl I was reminded just how impressive the overlay of the 'first and ten down lines' on the TV picture is. No 'wobble' (in relation to actual markings on the field) even when the camera pans and zooms, and the lines really do seem to be 'on the ground', appearing to pass behind the players and under their feet:

What aspect of VAR are you thinking of Canary42? The only overlays I've seen in the TV coverage of football, and other sports, are done for 'analysis' and take place some time after the events examined, certainly not in 'real time'.
Sorry Etch, my comment was Tongue-in cheek (there should be an emoticon for that) precisely because of the obvious superiority of the 1st&ten system.
