Huge Increase Of Junk Mail On Hotmail Account.

Over the past week or two my hotmail has started receiving lots of junk mail. This morning was the worst so far, with 42 of them since yesterday. Does anyone know why? or how I can stop it happening? I used to get hardly anything and I presumed that hotmail was filtering them out; could they have changed something lately?

I use Thunderbird for all my email accounts. My hotmail junk automatically goes into my junk mail folder. I have now changed my Thunderbird junk settings to delete the junk files in the junk folder 1 day after receipt. I'll see how it goes.
