When Will Prince Andrew Be Able To Resume His Royal Duties?

I think he's walked away from his legal encounter with a young woman he can't even remember without a stain on his character. Perhaps his family jumped to judgement.

"i don't get how political parties would know "the people" had decreed it though. " - well they'd decree it by referendum, up to then it would become a popular subject, a movement, maybe societies would form. A bit like in Australia where they actually got to the referendum stage once. Very much like brexit it would gain popularity to the point where the main parties could not ignore it and would have to embrace it or start losing elections. FWIW I am a staunch royalist I'm just outlining how the republican view could overtake that if the mood changed.
im also a royalist (well as in i don't mind them; i wouldnt defend them to the death!)
what you're saying seems a bit topsy turvey to me though - you say a referendum wiuld tell what the people think. But how would political parties know people wanted to become a republic, and then promise a referendum without a referendum?

read what I write nobs, same way we ended up with a brexit referendum. A movement would grow, parties my form like UKIP did, it would not be obvious or quick but it could get to the stage where the main parties could not ignore it and would have to offer a referendum like Dave had to in 2015 in order to get elected, he then held the referendum, you know the rest. What I'm saying is that it is possible if the RF popularity fell badly. Political parties care about only one thing, getting elected and for that you need popularity, if that means throwing the monarchy under the bus they will not hesitate. It's only because there is overwhelming public support that it has not happened already.
// since MPs have to swear allegiance to the queen, they're pretty much blocked from calling for a republic;//
