can anyone help me. i need to know if there are any bylaws in glasgow regarding the closing of market depts. (fruit, fish,meat etc).
i have heard that they must keep at least one market opened and they intend closing them all down. urgent.

I doubt that there are any bye-laws relating to this matter. Local authorities usually enact bye-laws to regulate the activities of individuals and not to regulate themselves!

If there is any regulation requiring Glasgow to hold a market, you'll probably find it embodied within the borough's Royal Charter, which was granted in the late 12th century. A quick web search confirms that the Charter certainly authorised the borough to hold a weekly market but, from the references I've found, it's unclear whether the borough is actually obliged to do so.

I suggest phoning the Glasgow Museums Service reference library and asking about how you can find out about the provisions of the city's Charter which relate to the holding of markets: 0141 276 9300.
