My daughter rang me and asked if I had any paracetamol and toiletries she could have as there a truck going to Poland on Thursday morning with stuff for the Ukrainian refugees, I have and so I put the message out on my FB page , the phone has never stopped neither has the doorbell, I now have ag least 16 large black bags full of warm clothing in my small spare room to go to the border between Poland and the Ukraine, people are so kind .
I couldn't after seeing that little girl pass away on TV. just couldn't sit around doing nothing.
Went to B&M got the cheapest tooth brushes I could buy, 3 in a pack for a £1, got 20 packs, then aldi toothpaste 59p each, got 20 of those. Also got baby milk, didn't know it was so expensive. All these things have been asked for in my area.
We actually bought a carrier bag full of toiletries for this purpose. We donated them along with three large bags of clothing. My wife slipped a note in the pocket of one of the coats wishing them good luck from Manchester.
In 1993, my daughter was in the Brownies and they were collecting toiletries and clothing for Bosnia. We sent quite a lot of things then, but my daughter put a note in one of the boxes wishing them well etc. She was surprised 3 months later to get a letter from Mostar from a grateful family thanking everyone for their efforts. They gave an address, and my daughter replied and sent some photos. No FB or Twitter etc at that time. She became pen friends with their eldest son and he ended up living in Scotland. They have met a few times now and are still good friends. Give these Ukranian people some hope and some thought. I can assure you they will appreciate it.
A pattern is emerging that they are desperately short of nappies, Calpol,Vaseline ,toothpaste , toothbrushes etc, I’m trying to find out if there’s anyone in my area that’s going to Poland to take warm clothes , watching Sky news right now , it’s snowing in Kroscienco , the Ukrainian Polish border, my heart aches for these people
In spite of the evil being carried out by the minority in this world of our's , we can take some comfort in the knowledge that the vast majority of our fellow human beings have a streak of goodness running through them .
Well done to all those who who are making an effort .
Rice pudding is only 29p per tin from Aldi. 10 tins can feed a lot of young kids for £2.90. And it can be eaten hot or cold. 29p to save a kid from staving.
