Why Am I Still Seeing Eejits Walking Down The Road With Masks On?

For what it's worth I hate masks and haven't worn one except in times and places where it was compulsory. I too fail to understand why so many people are still wearing them in the street and in shops. If they think it's protecting them they're deluded. I blame "project fear" and the government. Do we wear masks against flu or the common cold? No.

Gness, I'm not sure. A recruitment person told me it was likely to not be "law" from 16th March. They bottled out, on realising how many NHS staff they would lose (older people were apparently worth the experiment... and it didn't go well). But- now it is in place, it could be that individual employer's still decide to make a condition anyway. And I don't know about the legal side of that.

" - well the masks are primarily for the protection of others, assuming they have any effect which is highly doubtful with the odd bits of rag people are using. Maybe they don't (after all, who does?). But they will not be protected from it by wearing a flimsy, ill-fitting mask which they stuff into their pocket and drag out again as they go about their daily business. In fact a well fitting flimsy mask, even if worn and treated properly, will not provide that protection.
Instead they should treat themselves to an FFP3 facemask and, provided it is worn and treated correctly, that will give them 99% protection against SARS-Cov-2 as well as all the other airborne viruses which are around and which present similar risks. They should be prepared to do that forever and in all environments, mind you, because as soon as they venture out without their mask they run the risk of contracting the virus. If they are not going to carry on the habit indefinitely they may as well not bother because, come the day, they will almost certainly be exposed to Covid.

//I wear a mask when in shops or other crowded places. Why? Because if they prevent me, even by 1%, from being infected from other peoples coughs, colds, 'flu or potential covid then that is good as far as I am concerned//

I'm not having a go. You can wear what you like, it makes no odds to me and I'm not calling you an eejit or anything else. I'm just struggling to understand some of the things that people have been doing during the last couple of years.
