You have to remember, in the first place, Putin has surrounded himself entirely with uber-loyal cohorts who believe every word he says.

And even if they don't, it is in their interests to say they do, because if Putin goes, they go too.

It's not difficult therefore, for a patriotic Russian close to Putin to spout the Putin line with conviction - what else would anyone expect him to do?

Trump was similarly surrounded by people who nodded away while he spouted the most appalling garbage as 'the truth'.
