this word comes from a dialect word for snail, akin to the word 'conch'. any ideas please ?

How many letters?
'conker' is a dialect name for a snail shell, probably related to 'conch' which comes from the French and Latin.
Little boys originally played 'conkers' with snail shells.

Amazing the trivia we pick up on this site.
