This memorial was approved by the council but now they've got cold feet and are claiming it's different from plans submitted.

But the whole thing is tasteless over-indulgence IMHO (to judge its size, the two statues of the deceased are life size). How could anyone countenance such excess in a public cemetery.

Sometimes society bewilders me.

Agree with dave at 9.25.
It’s so tacky, but I like it.
It's funny to see calls for 'jobsworths' to intercede and say "Here, you can't do that, it's against regulations."
Is there any evidence that the council are only pretending that it wasn't built as approved?
I personally love it, and think it brings a ray of cheerfulness and light.
I think it's lovely too, but it probably sticks out like a sore thumb and will attract all sorts of vandals. The cemetery where my relatives are buried have very old mundane gravestones and even they are vandalised. This will attract people from miles around and I can't understand why they would want strangers trampling all over their loved ones grave which is what I think will happen.
