Another question prompted this. I would love not to have a mobile phone but our culture now seems to accept we all have them and has made it almost impossible to do without one.

I rarely use mine and don't take it out with me, or i turn it off when I am out. My OH and son are the same.

Are we alone?

My phone is like another limb and I would be lost without it for all the reason that everyone else has mentioned but I also keep it on silence because I hate it if it rings!

But that's what phones are meant to do Maydup-ring ?! Mine rarely rings because I don't disclose my number to many. I prefer the house phone for conversations.

Worse thing to me is those who share their conversations with all around them and put their phones on the table in cafes and restaurants and fiddle with them all the time like kids do

I preferred the days before mobiles.
Really irritates me when people use loud speaker on public transport. So annoying!

I always use ear pods when talking or listening to music so I'm hands free to do other things. Can't remember the last time I put my phone to my ear.
A little while back someone said to me, why don't you have your ruddy phone on, I tried to reach you today.
I said was it urgent, she said, well, no but.... I said well that's why I don't have it on.

I said I have a phone ( switched off) on me to call the AA if I breakdown, or to make an urgent call, plus it appears I now need it to access my bank, until they decide that I will also need to be tagged on the ankle.

My final words to her were, if you need me for anything urgent I have an answering machine at home.

I agree with you pat. It won't be long before we are all expected to have a 6 foot wide TV. :)
My landline never gets used. The only reason I have it was that I needed if for virgin internet. Otherwise I'd happily get rid of it...I hate having to pay for something I don't use. I get far more use from my mobile...but don't think of it as a phone...more a portable mini computer.
At the moment I'm chatting to daughter via WhatsApp...at my leisure :). She's sending me photos of the cat greeting them on return from their week away.

They are far removed from phones actually.

I actually talk to my friends on Messenger, sometimes for hours, but on my tablet and always sitting down with a cuppa. I'm happy on my tablet, Incan sit and relax with it.

My mobile phones stays off and downstairs at night, my tablet sneaks up to bed with me!
