(IMHO
I was dubious when I bought my first cold fill machine after several hot and cold fill machines.
I was very pleasantly surprised at how quick the wash cycle is. Even the boil wash is quicker than my old machines. Maybe it's new technology.
As I have an immersion heater only for my hot water during the summer it is a real bonus not using this limited hot water for my washing machine.
Pingu is quite correct about the modern detergents. My manual tells me to run a boil wash once a month, without any washing in the machine, using the cheapest biological 'bleach' washing powder. This kills all the bacteria in the machine that causes that awful black mould.
My washing machine is a Miele by the way. :)
