"Creeping Twitches"
6 Answers
is there a name for the sorts of muscle spasms/twitches that start as a sort of all over 'creeping' feeling ...
like if you try to not twitch, you can feel it 'building up' all over.
The sensation gets more and more intense & you feel the need to clench all your muscles to 'release' the feeling.
if you dont, it ends in a twitch
I get this often whenever i take certain herbal nighttime tablets, like Nytol, and i think in the past ive taken 2 other types & theyve caused it together, so i dont take many
with those, i've found i had to get up & stomp around, waving my arms around, wiggling my limbs etc to make it 'pass'
& eventually it seems to ease off enough to sleep.
But is there a name for this type of twitching? One that you know a twitch is coming.
not like 'ordinary' twitching, where it just happens at random & you dont know its coming
thanks :)

I have no idea if there’s a name for it but I do remember it being awful and pacing up and down for a couple of hours before it passed off.

thanks all
atheist, i think its kind of similar yes, its like twitch tendrils crawling up & enveloping your muscles, and once its 'full' it does a massive twitch & its back down again, & starts slowly creeping up
i can speed that up & just let it twitch sooner, or clench the muscle, because trying not to is unbearable after about 30 seconds.
vagus - yes its awful isnt it - especially when youre really tired. ive never taken nytol since, but i think many similar things have similar ingredients, & ive found if i take them really early on, like 6 hours before im going to bed, that period passes barely noticed, because im up and about & doing stuff.
it depends how they affect you whether that works though i think it works for me because it takes ages for me to fall asleep anyway, so needs longer to work
sqad - im not recognizing the twitches described in for that one, but i'll read further.
i started getting them, when i was taking gabapentin, i came off that & went on amitryptaline & would have occasional jerks during the day, but then get really bad uncontrollable & almost constant twitches about half an hour after taking it, sometimes quite severe.
im off them now, but fairly recently - about 4 weeks - so maybe its just taking my body a while to adjust.
