A friend of mine stood garantor for an ex girlfriend on a 3 year lease on a house rental and now two & half years later he finds out lately she is behind with the rent , she says she has not got it and the landlord wants him to pay 2 grand . Is there anything he can do , after all this time can he plead change of circumstances

He signed as guarantor so he must be prepared to put his money where his signature is so to speak. Perhaps lend her the money and make sure she signs a document and pays it to the landlord, witnessed etc, for the �2000 stipulating it must be repaid on demand. Give it a couple of weeks, write a letter of demand and if she defaults take her to the Small Claims Court for settlement of the loan by selling some assets such as a car.
