Diclofenac and weight gain
26 Answers
12 months ago I gained over a stone in weight in a 6-8 week period , I have never been prone to weight gain, I have always been lean & quite muscular so was quite shocked as it was like my body composition had changed overnight (cellulite & fluid retention)my eating habits and exercise regime hadn't changed, the only thing I could think of was a delayed reaction from giving up smoking almost a year before that.
Despite my best efforts I cannot shift the weight and its driving me mad as to why????Ive been dieting and have given up alcohol just to stop me gaining!!!
Anyway after blood tests revealing nothing i had resigned myself to thinking it must be middle aged spread Until I have had an eureka moment tonight this began soon after being prescribed diclofenac sodium 50mg 3x daily, is it possible that these meds are causing this and if so will things revert back to normal if my GP switches me to something else. Thanks for listening x

\\\\over use of antibiotics is one of the major problems in society today and its even said that this eventually could cause a major appocalypse.\\
You may well have a point there, but the issue is contentious among the medical fraternity and this was said some 50 years ago and after a lifetime of medical involvement i have seen little evidence of this.
Antibiotics may be life savers.
///in fact many people are unable to take NSAIDS because of the many side effects including aggrevating asthma//
Again true, but let's take this into context....all drugs including herbal treatments have their side effects. many of the degenerative joint disorders
giving pain are relieved by Nsaids. You say treat the cause and not the symptoms....I agree......but how do you reverse the ageing process which produces theses diseases?....can't be done either by medical or homoeopathic means.
\\\the whole principle of innoculation was to give a small amount of the disease to activate the bodies own responses and homeopathy works on similar principles \\\\
Again i agree.....but the immunological response is purely biochemical (science mediated)
There is not a SHRED of scientific evidence to suggest any therapeutic value of homoeopathy, but if you feel that i am misjudging the situation, then would you please send me the scientific papers published by a reputable organisation and then I shall reply in an appropriate manner.

This could have been written by me! Exactly the same...over summer the numbers on the scales just kept creeping up incrementally and I could not explain it. I have had gastric lapband surgery, and would not dream of jeopardising that, and watch what I eat very carefully, and even had a beautiful wool suit tailored for me last winter. Once the cooler weather hit I was horrifed and so upset to see the suit doesn't fit any more. I don't work out, but walk a lot and hardly eat much anymore (you could fit my whole day's intake on a dinner plate.) Very uncaring people just say oh well you must be eating rubbish, or you should exercise more. I hope they contract something very painful, because those of us with weight problems hardly need the cruelty from the slim people. I don't go around saying 'and you are ugly'. I was taking diclofenac because my joints were aching awfully, and it eased that noticeably; I had maintained a steady weight for over two years, then in the space of a summer 7kg came out of nowhere, it seemed. I also have hypothyroidism, which can cause increased joint inflammation, so the diclofenac on the one hand eased that, but ruined my weight.
I have had the same situation. I have maintained my weight loss for a few years and started putting on weight the first of the year and it just keeps going up. I have averaged a pound a week weight gain the past 4 months. It has been freaking me out. I do have thyroid issues which I'm taking meds for and first thought they might be out of whack, and then I checked the side effects of Diclofenac Sodium which I started taking in December. It mentions unusual weight gain and tiredness as unlikely but possible side effects. I am quitting taking it as of this morning and hopeful I will stop gaining. I was curious if anyone else had experienced this. I would love to hear from folks that posted before if they were able to lose the weight once they got off of it. I am so bummed.... thanks everybody
