Would you back a horse that's being ridden by a jockey who's never had a winner in 40 years of trying?

I used to work in a betting office, many years ago. I've seen guys lose their wages in a matter of minutes.

Of course I would. He's overdue a winner :-)

^^^ That's an interesting take on statistics, NJ ;-)
NJ buys a lottery ticket every week because the odds of winning are 50:50 - either you win or you don't.
Brian J John - YAWN! I've lost count how many times you've posted that old chestnut. Remind me, is it 15 or 16?

10C, you're another who always comes out with the same old same old every time gambling is mentioned. Change the record, we don't all foolishly chase our losses.

In answer to your question Chris, if i thought the horse stood a chance of winning, i'd probably back it irrespective of the pilot's record. The jockey has only had about 50 or 60 rides, many of which have not been 'under rules', so the fact it's taken him over 40 years to ride a horse to a 'proper' win isn't all that relevant. The price would probably have put me off for win purposes - 40/1.

I wouldn't have a clue, Brian. I've never had a large fortune. Or even a small one, come to that.
Ken, in my experience you are a very, very rare gambler. It's only the bookies that get rich, not the punters. People will be saying the same old, same old in 100 years time. There are very few punters who can claim that it's just a hobby. But no need to fuss. I'm sure the next bet will come up and all will be well again. ;o)
