I thought I'd lost a pair of socks in the washing machine. You could lose one but two is unusual.
Some time later I saw the woman I was staying with was wearing them. So, they weren't lost but misappropriated. I said nothing.

Someone told me I was wearing odd socks - I said "Yes - I have an identical pair at home!"
