It's said that Hitler meddling with the decisions of his senior officers hindered the Nazi war effort.
There was a report on the wireless this morning that Putin is going to take a closer role in the direction of the Russian forces who have invaded Ukraine.
If this happens can it be anything other than a good thing for the Ukrainian defenders?
afraid your prejudices have misled you, ymb. Churchill had a good war but I didn't know whether it was by running it hands-on or by letting the generals do so, so I asked. Thanks to PP for a proper answer.
Churchill had senior officers that were highly capable. As a an ex-soldier he would probably have known better than to get in the way of the likes of Montgomery, Harris, Eisenhower, Patton etc.
Amazing that a thread about Putin becomes polluted by what Churchill may have done or not have done. Perhaps some would liken Putin's stance to the career of Kylie Minogue or the movement of hummingbirds in Qatar.
The humming birds of Qatar, hum but are not heads of state
Putin and Churchill both were
and both were involved in wars
both undertook numerous adventures ( Ukraine and Crete, Italy, Dieppe, St Nazaire, Arnhem spring to mind)
and Churchill did NOT lurch from victory to victory - Singapore ("everyone looked on it as a terrible shattering defeat and asked how the war cd go on." - my mum actually)
// Churchill had senior officers that were highly capable//
nur-nurrrr ( sound of the negative buzzer)
Gort - Dunkirk
Perceval - SIngapore
Boy Browning, Horrocks - Arnhem
Ritchie - ist battle of Alamein
the Auk - the rest of the North African awful campaign - give him Tobruk
yeah yeah - Gallipoli they were all wonderful there as well....
( Maude Mesopotamia but he cant be blamed for that)
I hope that Putain really meddles with his senior military and that they lose confidence in him if they haven't done so already...it make the chance of a nuclear attack being much negated and higher odds that one of them takes him out within the Onion Domes.....
