My late Father in Law stood by this old saying : "You get what you pay for". If the TV is ridiculously cheap then it probably wouldn't last very long. Just my opinion.

Look at Euronics or John Lewis - they offer some tvs with a 5 year guarantee.

Polaroid does not exist as a company - it is just a badge put on cheap tvs made by a third party. Same as Bush, Blaupunkt, JVS, Hitachi, HiSense.

It really annoys me that shoddy companies are allowed to buy and use the names of once trusted and well-known brands.

Hisense televisions are manufactured by Hisense Group, namely a member company of Hisense Hisense Visual Technology Co.

I still lump them as cheap televisions, though, churning them out for supermarkets under various badges such as Sharp.

I think Polaroid is now ASDA's own brand.

Avoid, and if possible but Samsung.

Most other brands, even big names are manufactured by an outside company (usually in Turkey).

I've never heard of Polaroid TVs. I assumed it was sets you can still watch when the sun is glaring on the screen. :-)

As has been suggested above, Polaroid no longer exists as the original company. The rights to use the 'Polaroid' brand name have now been sold to lots of different firms. So, for example, the new Polaroid cameras, that have just come back onto the market, aren't made either by the original Polaroid firm or by any of the companies that sell Polaroid batteries, Polaroid TVs, etc. They're all entirely different businesses.

Asda own the exclusive UK rights to the Polaroid name in respect of the sale of TVs, etc. So you'll only find Polaroid sets sold in Asda stores. As Asda don't actually manufacture electronic goods though, they buy in products from manufacturers in the Far East and have them badged with the 'Polaroid' name. While they might buy all such products from one manufacturer, it's also possible that they could use multiple suppliers. (So, for example, you might see two different models of Polaroid sets on sale in your local Asda, which were made by different manufacturers in different countries).

Having said all that though, Asda's Polaroid TVs represent excellent value for money. They might not be quite up to the standards of sets from well known (and sometimes mega-expensive) brands but they do the job well enough. My telly is a Polaroid one from Asda, which I purchased for (I think) about ninety quid in the days when I was largely unemployed and struggling with money. I had it many years and it's perfectly good enough for what I need.
