I had a very happy childhood, the youngest of 5, I was lucky that I never experienced the war years or hardships, my Dad had a good job after leaving the RAF,I liked school and to this day I adore Christmas , everyone thinks their generation was the best one but to me the 60s was the best, the music and the fashion
I had a truly wonderful childhood up till the age of 10. Ballet, horse riding, computers colour tvs etc. then my dad went to the Falkland and almost overnight my mother changed, beating us for the smallest infringements.
Oh we still had all the extras all the stuff people could see plus the small stuff the showed mum as the ideal mother and wife.
But behind doors a leather belt and wooden spoon were her weapon of choice.
Quite funny looking back on it now she was a highly sought after foster carer but her daughter was wondering around with open wounds on her backside
I had a brilliant childhood. Wandering over the fields with my radio and animal friends. Playing in the woods, streams, hideouts. Hot summers, blue butterflies, wild flowers, sitting gazing at the horizon and dreaming of travelling. I`m so glad I was brought up in the countryside.
Thanks choux.
Looking back I suspect she had probably been Ill for sometime.
But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
All the ponies and dance lessons etc certainly made it look ideal to the outside world
Idyllic - something like that of 237Sj. Swimming in the river, playing rounders at school, the sounds of nature all around - climbing hills -
so many things the children of today might feel unsafe doing.
Or their parent's fear and worry stops them from doing.
I remember my dad going after me once with a belt, I was scrambling across the floor in my pyjamas. My brother protected me. I've no idea what I'd done...I wasn't a particularly naughty child.
