Kyrgios V Tsitsipas
40 Answers
Throughout the whole match Kyrgios has played the usual pantomime villain and has been in the umpires ear the whole time.
Tsitsipas is losing points for code violations, Kyrgios has had no sanction.
He’s wound up his opponent too with 2 underarm serves.
Not seen a match this fractious in a long time.
If he progresses, Kyrgios can’t be allowed to get away with any more of this in the tournament.

What an absolute travesty of a Wimbledon match. What ever happened to gentlemanly behaviour? I loathe Krygios and I would never in my wildest moment consider his play as "entertainme nt". I would have banned him, full stop. Vile man who is not worthy of a place on the lawns of Wimbledon.

At least Tsitsipas has shown some contrition:

Prudie, you were probably correct at 21:55, this was in today's MOS:
"Teacher Pippa Gribben, 51, and her daughter Evie Gribben, 18, both from Clevedon, North Somerset, said they loved the drama.
Mrs Gribben said: 'It was absolutely incredible — players playing at the top of their game, a bit of tension, a bit of code violation, the crowd love that.
'I felt Kyrgios really got under Tsitsipas' skin, which he's really good at.
'I was hoping we'd have a fifth set, but it ended brilliantly.'
Miss Gribben said that she enjoyed the game more than she would have being on Centre Court watching grand slam great Rafael Nadal, who was playing at the same time."
I am glad I am not a neighbour of the Gribbens and note that the mother quoted is a teacher. Hmmmmmmm

I agree with Mrs Gribben.......or empathise with her.
I was watching a boring and one sided match with Nadal when they showed Kyrgios on the other court.
I switched over and never switched back to the Nadal game.
I find Kyrgios, rude, unsporting but a wonderful tennis player, entertaining and compulsive viewing (for me) .

// bad for the sport and bad for its image. //
but great publicity for a tournament whose attendance figures are down, with attendance some days the lowest for 15 years.

the punters love this kind of drama - in the same way they love reality TV when spiced up with Tourettes sufferers, etc.

Fatticus, we are in total agreement here.
No sports player is greater than the sport. Wimbledon has a proud heritage and is the one championship all the players hanker to win. Bad-tempered players are ten a penny on any tennis court around the globe. Kyrgios' track record of causing trouble is absolutely shameful. His sort of behaviour is not what I and tennis-loving followers want to see. He needs to join a circus proper. He is the worst possible example for children learning to play the sport. I really hope that the umpires and referee stamp out any more disgraceful behaviour next week. The All England Club should have a re-think on allowing him to continue in the Championship.
