what makes your fingers go wrinkly if you sit in the bath for some time?

The skin on fingers and toes easily gets saturated (over-hydrated) and takes up more space that normal dry skin, so it has to wrinkle (nowhere else to go).
That's my theory anyway!
I heard that the skin wrinkles to give a better grip if you need to climb out of water.

Well, I think my answer is more sensible....!
This was on QI recently. Some human genetic adaption to give more grip, seemed the favourite explanation.
I reckon that having wrinkly fingers in the bath when one's young is nature's way of preparing us for being wrinkled all over when we're old ;-)
It makes you less likely to drop your can of lager into the jacuzzi.
