Sometimes when I put an item on my "watch" list, I'll get a limited time offer of a reduced price. Is it because they want to get rid of it or clear stock? So far its mostly been houseplants, but also a few other things like shampoo.

When you sell an item on eBay and set for the item as a buy it now or auction you can set the sale to accept offers.
When people watch your item ebay enables you to make an offer to all watching for a reduced price (must be less than 5% of buy it now price).

I’m have done this on a couple of items that have people watching but been listed for a while.
In my case it way autographed pictures.
I tried it in for £115 (when I wanted about £90) and I sent an offer for £95 to 3 people and it sold.

PS Not sure about the cost of living crisis, but I have made more e at sales recently in a few years and with many buyers paying top prices for items.

I only do eBay as a hobby.

Thanks for that explanation. I notice offers seem to range from 5% to about 12%...maybe a tad more.
I think if the item is 95% wanted, then a bit of a discount can be the clincher...or enough to decide "I don't really want it after all "
