Mushy Speaks!

Never watched the programme 'Educating Yorkshire', but thanks the media, i was aware there was a pupil who had an awful stammer. Local radio have just interviewed the ex-pupil, 'Mushy', about the influence his teachers (particularly a Mr Burton) have had on his life. Apparently the stammer was so bad, it threatened Mushy's educational progress until Mr Burton stepped in with lots of encouragement.
Not only is Mushy now a journalist, he earns extra income as a motivational speaker. Something, no doubt, the young Mushy would never have dreamed of.
Quite a heart-warming little story, which took my mind off heatwaves, war and governmental in-fighting. If only briefly.

Worth a watch, especially the bit where he stands up and addresses the whole year group. (I've known plenty of young people who, while normally self-confident, would simply freeze in such a situation):

I remember that...not a dry eye to be found. Lovely to know he's doing well...all due to the influence of a great teacher and his own motivation.

Ta for the clip, Chris, but i guess watching the whole series would put that 5 mins into more context, thereby making his 'moment' that much more special.
As Pasta indicates, i'll bet there were a few tears shed up and down the country when that scene was first aired.
