If all else fails then .json is pretty human readable (you can load it into a text editor such as Notepad++ so with a bit of work (i.e. knowing how to cleanly cut it) you could break the file into chunks yourself once you know what the max upload size is.
archibaldy - thank you *so* much for that link, it worked a treat. It doesn't render the messages the way the Skype Viewer would, but at least it picked them all up & I have a downloaded Notepad file of msgs going back to 2017 :-)
Glad you got it sorted. Piece of trivia: if anybody remembers old sci-fi programmes such as Space 1999 and UFO, they used to feature computers with reel-to-reel tapes on them which is where tar gets its name. Tape ARchive.
