Some years ago, in making a film for the Royal Navy, I spent some time with a NATO fleet working out of Gibraltar. At anchor at the end of each day the flotilla of boats scurrying from US and Canadian ships to RN ships was comical to behold. During a day on board the Canadian ship HMCS Kootenay (having taken a secret flask with me) I asked whether it wasn't a bore not to be able to relax over a drink after a long day. The reply was: "Ah, but we have an ice-cream plant that produces forty flavours!".
Thank you very much all of you for your answers. Have to admit it's a bit disappointing to find them 'dry' as am writing a story where it would have been useful to have been able to host our boys with a drink. Never mind, I'll remember the ice-cream with forty flavours - should be able to make something of that!
