Heart failure is a word used quite a lot by doctors. It sounds dreadful, but it doesn't mean you are going to drop dead. My neighbour had heart failure diagnosed in his late sixties and died at 90. It can just be s warning to realise that as you get older you do have to look after yourself and take more care. Correct Medication and good sense can keep you going. And...

Which I have done
Thanks for a best answer Bobbi. I wanted to calm you down and put my sensible hat on. I'm a panicker and know what it's like to get things out of proportion!!

I’m feeling quite chipper Lottie and wondering if it was indeed the heat although I was never out in it, I did a reading after breakfast and it came in at 140/73 which I’m so pleased about
Good news Bobbie. I have been on bp tabs for years. This heat is not healthy for us Northern Europeans.
Bobbie do you sit quietly and relax for a couple of minutes directly before you take your blood pressure? If I don't do that I get a higher reading.
If he's reading your thread, Bobbi, Sqad might be the one to answer this - blood pressure readings used to be taken with patient sitting, standing and lying down ... now reading seems to be only taken once (sitting) - what has changed?
Hazlinney........years ago BP was taken lying down after a rest, even at the Drs surgery. But the argument was that you spent the most of your life, standing up or sitting down and a BP after rest and or lying down was not a true representatative of your cardiovascular state.

I agreed.

So now at home if one takes one's BP 2 or 3 times a day, sitting, then that gives a true representative of one's BP i.e whether treatment is necessarry or not.
^^ Thank you!
Hazlinny, the last time my GP took my blood pressure, she did it three times in a row before she got a reading she approved of. (I thought it was the best-looking one too.)
Hi Bobbs - I know it is not for you but works for me.

When I take a notion of cutting down a certain thing - I weigh myself every day and could never get over losing maybe a pound or half a pound - it was a great feeling as then I knew I was losing. It worked for me - I do have digital scales which actual tell you the loss of ounces LOL and they would have helped me along too.

the only difficulty I had was subtraction - do I subtract from 14lbs or 16 ounces. Had to scratch the oul grey matter as ounces do matter LOL - good luck with trying to lose weight but as you say you are a certain age - don't worry about it too much as life is far too short with a pound or two extra.

It's good to hear your readings are looking better Bobbi, that must be such a relief for you.

Sqad just done my reading after my evening meal, 158/73, is it best to wait a while?
Not bad........take it before you go to bed rather than after a meal.
Question Author
Will do, thanks
I’ve been told by my gp to do 3 readings, waiting a few minutes between each one. Ignore the first two and just make a note of the third. I believe this is the recommended way to do it these days.
