I found out today through some ex Fire Brigade colleagues that if a fireman going on duty has to travel into the ULEZ he has to pay the ULEZ charge - the congestion charge is covered by the LFB.
If that fireman is ordered to serve at another station on a night shift ( called a stand by duty ) he will already have paid to go into work (£12.50) and on his return to his home station the following morning he will have to pay another £12.50 ULEZ charge, a total of £25 just for going to work !! I am of the opinion that all emergency service workers (including nurses etc) should be exempt from the Congestion charge and the ULEZ charge. Any thoughts on this ??

What about shop workers, cleaners, refuse collectors, delivery drivers, barbers, etc. etc.

Lots of people have to travel through or to the ULEZ to work and for many of them public transport is not an option. Why should only emergency workers be exempt from this ludicrous charge?

The odd burst of fumes is nothing compared to some of the filth pervading the capital.

Maybe try a bit harder to solve that problem.

Not just the Fire Service, all emergency services as well as nurses etc. New Judge has brought me down to earth though - just saw red when I found out about this.

not the ULEZ - after all you could choose to drive a lower emitting vehicle ( i guess that's what it's designed to encourage) but they shouldnt have to pay the congestion charge
