Surely those in sheltered accommodation should get first choice & the refugees move into the sheltered accommodation.

they haven't - that's what the whole article says. It's even in the sub-header "but many Afghans spoken to by Sky News say they haven't yet received any offers of housing"

There are already one million British people on the social housing waiting list in the UK.
I just hope the allocation of housing is done in a fair way.

ps im not sure "the queue" works in a first come first served basis as you seem to be implying. My understanding is that people are allocated points (on a need basis).
If a single person needs a ground floor flat because of a medical condition, and a 5 bedroom house comes up as free, the single person doesnt get offered t simply because they've been waiting for longer (or are british)!

I don't think you understand what sheltered accomodation is. It is accommodation for elderly or disabled people consisting of private independent units with some shared facilities and a warden.
Why would anyone who needs and resides in sheltered accomodation want to move?

Thechair, I admit I was confused about sheltered housing. I meant those that live in emergency & temporary accommodation whilst waiting for suitable housing.

did you even read your own link, or just the headline before you got outraged? hotels ARE emergency and temporary accommodation!
it's not like they are living hte high life in a swanky 5 star mayfair hotel, any more than any other people given temporary
emergency accommodation, which are ususally B+B/hotel based are

Of course I read my link. So this applies to all people in hotels regardless of whether their nationality? And the offers of housing are not forthcoming, hence the thousands of Brits still waiting.

it applies to all people on the waiting list to be housed. if you are in temporary accommodation and you refuse a reasonable offer (in some areas it's two, some one) the council has done its duty and will remove you
