A combi boiler will 'fire up' when you run (turn on) a hot water tap, so it only produces hot water when you need it, so, no, you don't need to switch it off at all. The pull string thing for the shower means that it is an electric shower and there is a little heater thing that heats up the water, again as you use it. If you don't switch the little string thing on then you will have a cold shower.

thnks very much dear - i understand it a little bit more - so i take it that if i leave the shower thing on then it doesnt make a differnece to my bills - the only time i get charged is when i use the water - i hope i got this right - thanks again
That's right jelisa - it's not like when you have a hot water tank which needs to be heated up every morning and every night. My electric shower also has a pull switch, and if I don't switch if off there is a red light glowing so I suppose it is using some electricity!
