cant take them back cause i bought them months ago and have only just tried to wear them.
its only 1 of them thats to tight anyway so a bigger pair would be no use!
Take the boot that is too small, and fit a watertight plastic bag inside of it and fill with water. Place the boot in the freezer and leave it till all the water is frozen. As it freezes the volume of the water will increase by about 10% thus stretching the leather. May be repeated if needed but be warned the freezing ice will produce enormous pressure and will easily destroy the boot. Think how easy iron pipe will split when frozen.

Dr Chaos,
thanks for your tip, i,ll certainly give it a try and if i ruin the boot, well, hey ho cause i cant wear them anyway what with 1 being too tight !
Soak the leather is warm water, so it gets waterlogged. Be careful not to get the sole wet, as being only cardboard, it will disolve. When good and floppy, dry them off with a towel then put them on and wear them till they dry out.

Oh my God i cannot belive that!!!!!!!!!

caz, leather stretches with wear, firstly double check the product label to be certain the outer is leather, the inner is probably synthteic and fabric. All you need to do is wear them with sports socks around the house for a few hours a day, you can buy a leather stretching product from a cobblers but probably within a few wears they will be fine. do not wet them or have them in contact with any kind of water, you can use a leather cleaner on them that also contains an element of leather moisturiser.

To maintain them keep them dry and treat them with the leather cleaner or leather soap regularly. if they have a narrow heel and smal heel tips make sure you have them re-heeled before the wear eats into the actual heel.
I know you're in the trade, dot, but that's what I've been doing for years now, and it works. Nearly every pair of boots I buy are too tight on my legs. I did used to use the leather stretcher you can buy, but you need so much of it for boot legs. So I tried with just water. A good polish afterwards, job done.

leather rots if it absorbes water
