Should I Confront My Sister In Law About Slapping Her Dog?

I live with my mom and right before I went to work, my sil and brother showed up to drop off their dogs because they are going on a trip. While I was talking to my brother upstairs, I saw my sil slap one of their dogs to try in get him to calm down. Not enough to hurt the dog but hard enough to make a faint slap sound. Ive known my sil for a long time but we aren’t really that close so idk how she would react. I’m not gonna confront her but more like just talk to her and ask her to stop. Idk much about how to train dogs. What I would do is just tell the dog to stay and if they did, give them a treat. Not hit them.

no one should hit an animal, its not the way to make they obey, behave. Love and kindness are the way to it's heart, and the occasional treat. Perhaps have a word with your mom as to the way forward, she might then have a word with the SIL>

Puppies mothers nip and bite their offspring because they love them and teach them how to behave.

Ozzy is right that a nip is how mummy dogs chastised their puppy.
As for the OP if you are concerned speak to your mother. It’s an old way of training to give your dog a tap

slapping the animal doesn't do any good, it means you are showing your aggression and that isn't the way to go.

nope, i am not an advocate of clipping round the ear or any form of
hitting a child, what does that teach them, to behave or make them worse.
