I Read Somewhere That England Hadn't Been Invaded By A Foreign Power Since 1066.
Is that strictly true? Didn't a Scottish army get as far south as Derby in the 18th Century?

the Anglo-Saxons didn't follow modern rules of succession, by which we know who's 3118th in line for the throne; that's why they ran it through the witenagemot. They'd usually choose the atheling but Edward had no children, and nominated Harold, and the witenagemot went along with that. The Normans claimed William had been promised the throne, but they would say that wouldn't they.
I'd rather have a black bun, doogie - several of my 5-a-week in there ...
