ken, love that, my mum and her second husband played that as their first dance at their wedding. That's because he asked her to dance to it when they first met, great song.
I also love this, just before the world cup final in 2003, when this was adopted as the IRB anthem, to the tune of "I vow to thee my country"

The story of Fred and Adele is interesting, Jno.....seems she became much taller than him and they looked awkward dancing together!
Can't get much quieter than the mellow voice of Paul Simon. IMHO, of course.

A favourite version of this beautiful song.

yes, they might have looked odd on screen, gness. Fred basically directed most of his musical numbers and he always insisted on showing the full bodies - what's the point of dancers if you cut them off at the knees? But that meant you couldn't use tricky camera angles that might have lessened the disparity.

Anyway, he found Ginger. As they used to say - "She gave him sex, he gave her class".
Well I agree with Astaire, Jno! Started to watch a Flatley dance show last night. I want to see whole bodies dancing. Keep the camera still! The camera man didn't. Quick shots of shoes, faces, arms, feet....so I deleted.

Ginger? I think she had class...a brilliant dancer...and in those shoes?..... :-)
Night all, take care;

The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended,
the darkness falls at thy behest;
to thee our morning hymns ascended,
thy praise shall sanctify our rest.
We thank thee that thy Church, unsleeping
while earth rolls onward into light,
through all the world her watch is keeping
and rests not now by day nor night.
As o'er each continent and island
the dawn leads on another day,
the voice of prayer is never silent,
nor dies the strain of praise away.
The sun that bids us rest is waking
our brethren 'neath the western sky,
and hour by hour fresh lips are making
thy wondrous doings heard on high.
So be it, Lord; thy throne shall never,
like earth's proud empires, pass away;
thy kingdom stands, and grows for ever,
till all thy creatures own thy sway.
Nice one, Ken....goodnight.
A favourite of mine and decidedly poignant.

she looks classy now, gness, but she used to play a lot of sassy chorus girls and the like, so it was a good career move to join Fred upmarket. She was a devout Christian Scientist and very rightwing Republican too.
Must admit, Jno....she did swear a lot...but I'd have liked her.... :-)
my favourite piece of all time,
God Bless Your Majesty.
