I'm old enough to remember pre-decimal coins. There'd be images of the kings and occasionally of queen Victoria on the coins we used.
How long will it be before we see coins with King Charles image?

soonish, but as coins are long-lasting, it'll take a while (stamps and bank notes will probably come first), and may even be overtaken by the cashless economy, where the best you will be able to get is a credit card with the King's head on it.

(For those not aware, the Bun Penny was one with Victoria with her hair in a bun).

erm we have had this
the lead in time is around 8 m
we know this because a few - v few thruppeny bits with Edw VIII head on them dribbled into circulation

and he lasted jan to Dec (1936)

all the crests on armed services - if they say EIIR - and police and so on have to be changed

Yes Canary I've got a bun penny in near perfect condition and a couple of the older ones. I've also got a farthing with the wren on and a three penny bit with the portcullis on it

it looks as though the portcullis only came in with the queen; the plant shown on the earlier coin is a thrift plant. Older ones just had a 3 and a wreath with a crown

I was working through some old stamps to sell for Oxfam.

At first I thought that if it had our monarch on it then it would be a British stamp. I forgot about Canada, Malta. NZ, Australia etc.

Most of the British stamps have Queen Elizabeth's head on them but there are male heads too. Her dad and her uncle I presume. Some have two monarchs.

I am not at all upset or emotional that she had died, but I realise that it is a significant time in history.

On the pre-decimal coins, "halfpenny" was shown as two words, "half penny".

as I understand it the UK is the only country that doesn't have its name on stamps (because it was the only one at the time), so that's the clue

JNO, have you seen the size of the writing on old stamps? I try and stick to sorting them out by the picture. I didn't realise that we don't have our name on them - the Queen's head is distinct enough.

Now we are going to have a little Spaniel on them!

the monarchs' head stands in for the country name, so if you have picture stamps you've still got the head to identify them. Ah, the days when Victoria ruled a quarter of the globe. A bit like Prince Philip being worshipped by Trobriand Islanders (or somewhere).

Yesterday, 09/09/22 was the 42nd anniversary of me starting working as a civil servant. Admittedly I only lasted 24 years & 33 days. Then my bipolar disorder became an issue.
I still can't believe it was so many years ago.

I have to get up early to get my shopping delivered so I had better go to sleep.
