9 Answers
Hi All
I'm trying to put together a budget for my wedding, but haven't got a clue how much some things are going to cost. So... Can anyone who has got married recently tell me, roughly, how much you spent on
a. flowers
b. suit hire
c. photographs
d. cake
e. entertainment
Thanks in advance.

ie a friend did my flowers, and i had 1 boquet and button holes for 8 people, which would be a vastly different price to decking out a church and a reception hall!
My best advice would be to ring some companies for quotes, because asking costs nothing.

First of all congratulations!!
As for the costs of things that can vary massively depending on how lavish you want to go and what area you live in.
I am going to quote roughly on what I found for my wedding last September:
a: Flowers - Brides bouquet 80-120, Bridesmaid bouquets 30 - 50 each. Groom/Best Man Corsages: 5-10 each. Mother of the Bride/Groom Corsages: 5-15 each. Buttonholes for other guests 1-2 each.
b. Suit Hire - Roughly starts at about 50-70 per suit but that often just includes the suit not the waistcoat and cravat/tie. This can easily knock the price up to 80 -100 per suit. A lot of places hire the grooms suit for free if you hire more than 4.
c. Photographs - With digital technology there are lots of different options about. The most nasic package involves a photographer taking a few hundred pictures and then simply sending you the disc for you to print off as you wish. This costs about 200 - 300. If you want a traditional album, what normally happens is that the photographer takes about 100 pics and then you pick about 30 to go in your album. This can cost anywhere from 400 - 1000+ depending on the package you go for. If you go for this option you should make sure that you own the copyright to the photos not the photographer, else you will not be able to reproduce without their consent.
d. Cake - A good wedding cake from a bakers will set you back roughly 200 - 400 depending on number of tiers etc. If you are on a budget M&S do a lovely iced cake in three different sizes and very pretty cake stands and flowers for teh cake are available at excellent prices on ebay. (This is what I did and it looked and tasted gorgeous)
e. Entertainment - again I know I sound very repetative but it depends on what you want. A simple evenign disco will be about 150 - 250 but a live band will be 500+

Go to all the wedding
I went to a wedding last year and there was no professional photographer at all.
Every table had one or two disposable cameras and some further ones were given out in the evening.
The photos are great, very natural and no boring line photos. They also blew up just like professional prints.
I know you haven't mentioned food, but again the wedding had chip and bacon butties for supper. It was cheaper than buffet food and much nicer.

wow thank you Niki2002 for your very comprehensive answer! That is really helpful.
Bewley Bros they are also v good ideas.
I'm not on a tight budget as such, but just want to estimate how much things will cost to help decide whether we should spend more or less on the venue. The venues we're seen have quoted for food drinks etc, but I didn't have a clue how much these other things might cost.
