When when when will they ever be banned from people other than organised shows. Have just read in the paper of a yorkie having a fireword attached to its tale and blown to bits. If that was not enough the yobs took photos of it on a mobile. It makes me so mad and angry and extremely sad for the owners and of course the little one who must have suffered terribly. I feel very choked writing this. Every year it is the same. This has really upset me wish there was something that could be done to stop this. If this was a son or daughter of mine I do not know what I would do to them. Its sick

OMG that is so awful. How can someone do such terrible things, they must be SICK. I agree with you, the sale of fireworks should be banned except as you say to organised events and under licence.Every year there are younger and younger children begging for Penny for the Guy! I never ever give them anything and I would never let my own children beg on the streets. That poor little dog! There must be loads of horrible cruel things like that happening all the time.

Tend to agree with this one. If I hear any more kids with bangers on my street I don't know what I'll do.

Saw that report on the Yorkie, and whilst I know this sort of thing does happen, int this case the evidence is pretty slim. They know that it was hit by a car and the people in the car got out and took pictures, but the papers and owners wouldn't go so far as to say that it was definitely attacked with fireworks, more that it might have been "scared into the path of a car". Terrible all the same mind.

thats not what it says in the paper. I have managed to read it now because I would not like to have written anything that I had read wrong. It says that the dog was frightened by the fireworks and ran out into the road It indicates that she was run over and the yobs who found her then inflicted the firework on her and blew her to bits. I hope as the owners do that she died from being hit by the car and knew nothing of the firework. This is still SICK.
i cant beleive this its so awful, if it was my dog , god it doesnt bare thinking about, the poor thing the yobs need a firework attached to them then they'll understand what fear is.....

I wish 10clarionst had read this before posting in News. He/she seems to think we are all moaning about nothing and should get a life. With people with that attitude you don't stand a chance really.
Hi maggie, I think you have allowed an exageration in the newspaper to affect your judgement, yes to almost everything you say BUT, for a firework to blow any dog to bits even a small one would require something slightly larger than a standard firework of any kind, a small stick of dynamite would probably do the job!! and I don't think the average ''yobs'' carry these about with them. you should not allow your hatred of something to colour your judgement of what is true or false or probable.
In Northern Ireland you now have to buy a license costing around 30 before you can buy fireworks anywhere. It's really cut down the number of firework-related incidents and most people now go to organised displays, which are much safer!

qapmoc. I am not going to split hairs. I know the media can exagerate but that still does not alter the fact. Whatever size the firework is it does not give anyone the right to attack an animal with it. They know it is going to cause suffering. Also we are talking about a yorkie here not a great alsation or a dog of similar size. As long as these yobs carry fireworks of any description to cause suffering to anyone/anything I will have a hatred of them and hope one day they will be banned except for organised events. If it hadn't been for fireworks going off and frightening this particular dog it would not have run from the garden into the path of a car. If they are let off on Nov 5th only and we have to put up with them being let off in peoples back gardens then at least we know it is going to happen and we can take care not to let our animals out untill we feel it is safe to do so.
why don't we all club together for some fireworks, find the knobbo's that did it n ram a firework up their arse? shotgun i get to light it!!

If these yobs were found and brought to book all they would get is a slap on the wrist ,so I'm with lepers .
Fireworks do have the strength to blow a small animal to bits and that would be a standard one. you always hear of reports of people getting thier hands or arms blown off by fireworks a small terrier wouldn't stand a chance. Yes you can't always believe what you read in the paper but do the details of whether the dog got blown to pieces matter no its the lack of ethics that do.
fireworks only blow off fingers or hands if they are held tightly in the hand, it is the extra compression which causes the severity of damage. you can't really blame fireworks for this, if these people were inclined to do something like this then they prob would have done it with anything they had at hand. people are cruel to animals all the time without using fireworks.
The trouble is firework can be purchased quite legally online, and who is to say that children will not use their parents credit card details and order?

There are so many moronic people in the world that have to surpress the enjoyment of the majority. I know there is the saying that 'Boys will be boys', but blowing up animals is a different level.

I had a quick scan about and found a number of sites selling fireworks online without so much as any age verification. One of these being http://www.selstarfireworks.co.uk

Surely there must be some form of government regulation in order to tighten up who fireworks are sold too.
