Hi, William, I admit it freely. Not when the news broke nor in the long period before the funeral. But on the day of the funeral we both shed some tears for HM and her family. The whole day was an exquisite masterpiece, the likes of which we will not witness again.

Ken4155Windy, you have something in common with the late Queen. Couldn't muster a single tear when Diana died, but tears came easily when the Royal Yacht was decommissioned.
The Queen probably wasn't fond of Diana. So why would she cry. The yacht held so many memories for her and she cried. I will probably cry when I have to leave the house that we lovingly renovated and lived in for 43 years because of the memories and emotion. Why would the Queen pretend to be emotional when Diana died?

//No. No tears but was impressed by the pageantry, efficiency and the timing of it. I'm assuming that the Royal Navy pulled the carriage because they are the Senior Service.//
Not quite. At the funeral of Queen Victoria, several horses pulling the carriage were ‘spooked’ and proceedings started going awry.
The nearby Royal Navy contingent were quickly re-assigned from marching duties to one of pulling the gun carriage in lieu of the horses.
The precedent was set and has happened for all state funerals since.

What I was trying to say was we cry when we are emotionally upset. And we can't force emotions if they are not there. It is very possible that the Queen wasn't fond of Diana however long she had been her daughter in law.Not everybody is fond of their inlaws. I didn't cry when my sister in law died. I cried when my father in law died, but not my mother in law. Some people don't show emotions by crying anyway.
FoxLee, we simply don't know. I disagree that the tears came easily over the decommissioning of the Royal Yacht, Britannia. I think HM was often close to tears in her lifetime but was strong enough to control her emotions as befitted her breeding, up bringing and personal behaviour. Britannia was so symbolic of some wonderful times for her and her family and HM showed her human side for once.
