Hi, William, I admit it freely. Not when the news broke nor in the long period before the funeral. But on the day of the funeral we both shed some tears for HM and her family. The whole day was an exquisite masterpiece, the likes of which we will not witness again.

Not a tearful person, but very sad. Seeing the corgis gave me a lump in the throat.(We were in Sunny Hunny last Thursday at the theatre and I thought of you!)
I'm actually the same as Windy Willow about animals!
No. No tears but was impressed by the pageantry, efficiency and the timing of it. I'm assuming that the Royal Navy pulled the carriage because they are the Senior Service. Hoever, on a more general note, I think there was a lot of condescension and sycophancy leading up to the funeral.
Ken4155Windy, you have something in common with the late Queen. Couldn't muster a single tear when Diana died, but tears came easily when the Royal Yacht was decommissioned.

The Queen probably wasn't fond of Diana. So why would she cry. The yacht held so many memories for her and she cried. I will probably cry when I have to leave the house that we lovingly renovated and lived in for 43 years because of the memories and emotion. Why would the Queen pretend to be emotional when Diana died?

Not quite. At the funeral of Queen Victoria, several horses pulling the carriage were ‘spooked’ and proceedings started going awry.
The nearby Royal Navy contingent were quickly re-assigned from marching duties to one of pulling the gun carriage in lieu of the horses.
The precedent was set and has happened for all state funerals since.
You're all so knowledgeable about the Queen - so she didn't shed a tear in public over Diana but how do you know how she reacted that Sunday morning when she heard the news that this woman, who had been her daughter-in-law, suddenly passed away at age 36.
We'll never know, Foxlee2, not until a ve'y ve'y deah friend is wheeled on to spraff for a Discovery Channel "documentary" about how the poor woman was beside herself in private but held it together for the sake of the country while in public.

Or something.
What I was trying to say was we cry when we are emotionally upset. And we can't force emotions if they are not there. It is very possible that the Queen wasn't fond of Diana however long she had been her daughter in law.Not everybody is fond of their inlaws. I didn't cry when my sister in law died. I cried when my father in law died, but not my mother in law. Some people don't show emotions by crying anyway.
And I have never claimed I know all about the Queen. All I know she'd a few tears publically about the Royal Yacht and I understood why.

FoxLee, we simply don't know. I disagree that the tears came easily over the decommissioning of the Royal Yacht, Britannia. I think HM was often close to tears in her lifetime but was strong enough to control her emotions as befitted her breeding, up bringing and personal behaviour. Britannia was so symbolic of some wonderful times for her and her family and HM showed her human side for once.
Seeing other people cry makes me cry.

I did shed a tear or three before the funeral but the only time it got to me during the funeral was when the congregation sang the hymn ‘The day thou gavest Lord has ended’. That does it every time.
It's bobbing away nicely in old Leith selling over-priced tea and cakes and tasteless souvenirs if anyone cares to visit.

Tissues supplied to offset the eye-watering prices.
How many of her family have you seen crying for the Queen?
No extra charge for this service. :-)

Love that hymn Naomi. One of my favourites. Not a religious person but must admit there are are a few with music and words that make me emotional, and that I sing along with. Not being religious doesn't mean I don't have a spiritual side.

With me it was not just my affection for her but the solemn rites that brought it on for me.
