I enjoy watching Ben Fogle visiting people who have decided to relocate to remote parts of the World - was there ever a time in your life when you wanted to quit the rat-race and do similar and, if so, where would you have gone and why?

Don't know about the wider world but I love Cornwall so I'd relocate there.....somewhere away from people! Ha ;o)
We did it in our early thirties. Gave up our jobs and bought a semi derelict cottage in very rural Norfolk which we renovated ourselves. Not exactly in a wild place but so different from the rat race. Lovely living with no stairs, no loo or no kitchen for a fair amount of time! People thought we were mad!

^^ Would love to have done the same in the Scottish Highlands/Islands.
When I was out of work in 1972 I applied to Australia and Canada - neither accepted me.
I moved from the US to the UK...does that count?
We lived up in Scotland for a while with ex's parents until we purchased our own place...a world away from NYC.
Our first little house was in Bedfordshire with fields front and back...a totally foreign environment for me and definitely rat race free.
I very nearly moved to NZ in my early 20's (I had family there). I know my Mum didn't want me to go and I would be leaving behind my beloved dog, so after a LOT of soul searching I decided to stay and never regretted it.
Dave and I sort of did. Maybe not in the true meaning of remote but to a far away village in the far south west of Ireland. Fed up with the UK we wanted a kinder, calmer place to live. I knew this area well and knew that it would suit us.
We have beautiful, deserted beaches to roam. Mountains and hills to climb where we see nobody.
If we want company we have a vibrant, friendly village to wander through. Life is bliss.

^^ Sounds idyllic, Gness. Travelled a little in Southern Ireland and thought it was such a beautiful area.
From the title I thought this was about leaving AB !
